This past weekend I was lucky to be picked up by the Courier Journal, a Louisville based newspaper, to cover two state championship football games .
I love shooting prep sports because it was a huge part of my life growing up. I was a three sport athlete in high school. My brother was a wrestler and a football player, my sister was a runner, and even both my parents were athletes when they were young, and still are. They both finished running in a Santa run back home.
I still remember looking for my mom in the stands after every wrestling match or hearing my dad on the field from the stands as he would yell " Run the damn ball."
I saw a moment you see at every one of these state games. A girlfriend kissing her boyfriend after they had just won. Tears in both of their eyes.
"You deserve this. I love you."
I know that this is just football. There is war, famine and disease that is happening all around the world. I know there is injustice all over the world but I live for moments like this. To cover a small moment between a high school couple. To photograph a parent holding their child and whispering, "I'm so proud of you," no matter the outcome of the game. Just like my parents used to.
Love you mom and dad.
Hope you guys enjoy the photos.
